Ursa Will Appear In Superman Reboot

Further proof a lot of people following the movie-news scene lack reading comprehension skills.

British actresses Alice Eve and Rosemund Pike and German actress Diane Kruger were reported (via the trades) to be up for the female lead in Zack Snyder's Superman reboot for next Christmas. But in a twist, they stated the role in question wasn’t for Lois Lane.

For some reason, that translated, by many, to "Oh my God! Lois Lane isn't in the reboot?!?" Even though the trade publication never once stated or implied the Daily Planet reporter with a thing for Kryptonian superheroes masquerading as bumbling, but loveable, dorks wouldn't appear.

Latino Review got to digging and found out what's up. So what did their Burbank moles squeal?

First, Lois is in the reboot so chill out fanboys. Second, this phantom lady paraded about for Eve, Kruger and Pike (God knows there could be others before things are definite) is Ursa, the Kryptonian villainess from the first two Christopher Reeve movies.

Since we know she'll be flying around the Earth causing grief for the new Man of Steel (UK actor Henry Cavill), sounds like those General Zod rumors were for real. Yeah, yeah, I remember Zack Snyder denying that last year. Because as we all know, actors, filmmakers, etc. never ever lie about information that gets out early.

Eve, Kruger, & Pike Tug At Superman's Cape

It's been one news story after another slapping us in the face since Henry Cavill was announced as the new Superman in Zack Snyder's reboot of the franchise, mostly dealing with who will be playing the female lead opposite of Cavill. What's Playing fired the first shot reporting that Kristen Stewart, Malin Akerman, Dianna Argon, Jessica Biel, and Rachel McAdams were fighting it out to cuddle up to Superman as Lois Lane in the next installment. Then Latino Review chimed in with the news that Olivia Wilde was also in the mix for the role of Lois Lane.

Soon after there was a flurry of denials and speculation regarding Kristens Stewart's involvement in the casting process, did she read or didn't she, we ultimately found out her attention was now turned to "Snow White & The Huntsman". Now new information has surfaced regarding additional possibilities for the female lead. Variety is finally making an impact on the Superman news front, they have revealed that Alice Eve, Diane Kruger and Rosamund Pike are also circling the casting couch for the female lead in the Superman flick.

The trade is very clear that that the role is not that of Lois Lane, which has caused some internet chatter. "No LoizLanez! Oh Noes!" Personally, if Lois didn't make an appearance in the film, I would be perfectly fine with it. We've seen Lois enough don't you think? "Superman The Movie", "Superman II", "Superman Returns", not to mention on television with "Smallville" & "Lois & Clark". Lois overload.

All of that that being said, if you think about this situation for a moment, seems like the Nolan Bros & Warner Bros could possibly be casting two female leads. Another possibility is that Lois could have a reduced role in the new Superman film with another character taking the reins as Superman's go to female counterpart in heels.

What other females could possibly be in Superman's life besides Lois and Ma Kent you ask? How about Lana Lang, Clark's childhood sweetheart? We've seen her in "Smallville" and we were treated with her in "Superman III". She would be a welcome addition to the big screen along side Lois or even by her lonesome. Another possibility is Cat Grant. She's played a significant role in the comics working at the Daily Planet, and she always seems to place herself in Clark's field of vision.

I don't know if it is just me, but Alice Eve looks a lot like the comic book version of Cat Grant. You sign her up as Grant, Biel or Wilde as Lois and I am all in. Who knows what is going to happen at this point, but in regards to the casting of the female lead, looks like this will be resolved in the next couple weeks. Just a guess on my part of course, but things are moving FAST. Faster than a speeding bullet even.

The Curious Case of Kristen Stewart, Kryptonians & Huntsmen

There's been a lot of back-and-forth over the last 24 hours or so over Kristen Stewart and her status, or lack thereof, on the Superman reboot for next Christmas. So I'll be brief. Well...I'll try...

What's Playing first said her name was filtering through the pipes at Burbank for Lois Lane, along with a handful of other actresses. Although I lack a hatred for emo vampires and Stewart has the acting chops, she doesn't strike me as right for the gung-ho Dailey Planet reporter. But it made sense she'd be brought up being she's one of the "hot" actresses at the moment. In this case, some of those mentioned will "do lunch" with the filmmakers over the part, and others are just being tossed around the production offices.

New York Daily News says it's a case of the former as she reportedly took a single meeting with helmer Zack Snyder and his wife/producing-partner Deborah. The verdict was a no-go for the Twilight star.

Cut to People getting in touch with Stewart's representation, who have absolutely no reason at all to lie or make the situation appear in her favor, claiming it was her saying, "Thanks, but no thanks" and not the other way around. Because she apparently wants to do "smaller, independent films" – you know like Snow White & the Huntsman.

Universal has been beating down Stewart's door for their big Christmas 2012 tentpole (that'll be fighting for your wallets against Superman, interestingly enough) and reportedly told her she wasn't required to read for it – even though they'd conducted recent screen-tests with other lesser-to-completely unknown actresses. Hence a new report from Heat Vision stating she's now in negotiations for the part.

Sounds to me like what happened is obvious. The Snyders told her she'd have to test and risk not getting cast. Being how Universal said to the contrary, and there’s a high likelihood her payday will be considerably higher, she made the logical choice for Snow White instead of pursuing Superman.

Warner Bros Is "Wilde" For Lois Lane

A lot of WB/DC news is filtering out lately. Led by Henry Cavill being cast as the new Man of Steel in the Superman Reboot and Anne Hathaway clawing her way into the role of Catwoman in "Dark Knight Rises", Team Nolan is having their time in the sun, or the snow and rain depending where you live.

Just after some internet buzz from What's Playing that Kristen Stewart, Malin Akerman, Dianna Argon, Jessica Biel, and Rachel McAdams were on the minds of WB executives, the scoop juggernauts over at Latino Review are at it again with a new candidate for Lois Lane.

According to Latino Review Olivia Wilde of "House", "Tron: Legacy", and Cowboys & Aliens" fame has also tested for the role and their source is saying that this could effect her scheduling on "Kin", but of course "Kin" will accommodate if she is indeed cast as Lois.

If it's me, going off the names we have, Wilde is a no-brainer. She is a hot actress right now in every sense of the word. She has the acting chops and is more than qualified in the looks department, don't have to do much to make her believable as Lois. Maybe some Prada & Gucci?

It sounds like the Lois casting is heating up and I am expecting we're going to hear something in the next week or two, just a not so educated guess. I would imagine Deadline Hollywood is sitting on something as we speak, since we haven't heard from them yet on the Lois Lane casting front.

If the actresses have already read or been tested, you can bet they are going to come back in to test with Cavill. This is The Brothers Warner did with the finalists for Green Lantern, which ended up going to Blake Lively because of her chemistry with Ryan Reynolds. Her performance in "The Town" and her work on the CW show "Gossip Girl" had something to do with it as well. Speaking of Russell, you wonder if she is in the mix?

We'll find out soon. Same Bat Time, Same Bat Channel. Wait, wrong hero. Up, Up And Away.

Kristen Stewart & Four Others Battle For Lois Lane

Now that Team Nolan and Team Warner has their Superman in the young British actor Henry Cavill, the search for his flying partner seems to have accelerated into second gear.

According to What's Playing, WB has a short list of actresses that are clawing it out for the role of Lois Lane in the upcoming Superman film. Kristen Stewart, Malin Akerman, Dianna Argon, Jessica Biel, and Rachel McAdams are going toe to toe now.

Stewart made her mark toeing the line with werewolves and vampires in the Twilight series, she really needs no introduction. Dianna Argon is bringing in week in and week out on "Glee" and she is rumored to have read for both Spider-Man. You can see the interest in these two young ladies because of the notoriety among the younger demographic, imagine theaters crawling with Twihards or Gleeks?

One might think that Malin Akerman would have some sort of inside track because of her work with Snyder on "Watchmen", but that didn't really seem to work for Matthew Goode.  McAdams has long been a forum fanboy go to when casting Lois, she has the chops and worked with WB before on "Sherlock Holmes"

That leaves Biel. The reason she intrigues me the most is because we have heard her name before on a previous shortlist, except that was for the role of Catwoman in "Dark Knight Rises" which ultimately went to Anne Hathaway. Biel also read for the Wonder Woman role in the doomed from day one "Justice League: Mortal" Could Biel be in a similar situation as Cavill? He was in the mix for the role of "Batman Begins" and also cast as Superman in a previous incarnation during the McG days.
